Meera Fernandes has been teaching and facilitating music since she was 15 years old. As Music Captain throughout her schooling she was responsible for the well being and interests of her cohorts and supporting the needs of her fellow students.
After being accepted into Melbourne University for her Bachelors of Music (Trumpet Performance), she started her company, The Music Generation (www.themusicgen.com.au), a mobile music school that covered 6 states around Australia, providing music education to over 600 students over the course of 5 years. With her profits she travelled to India and Nepal providing free music education to children and adults of disadvantaged communities, as well as teacher training and professional development.
Meera was fortunate enough to spend a year in the UK undertaking studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She was also teaching part time and participated in a diverse range of professional development including programs by Musical Futures, The Voices Foundation and Nikhil Dalhy, just to name a few.
Now she returns to teaching full time, with the intention to make waves in Mumbai’s music education space. Her ethos is based in accessibility and equal opportunity, empowering confidence through self expression. Through creating well rounded musicians we are creating community minded and empathetic humans.
Music skill and technique is teachable, but music as an artform, as a means of expression need to be felt and connected with deeply.
